Ana Marques Website Redesign

Ana Marques Website Redesign

Ana Marques, Clínica de Psicoterapia e Saúde Mental is a leading clinic for Psychotherapy and Mental Health in the city of Coimbra, Portugal, offering high-quality services with technical and scientific rigor, while prioritizing a human-centered approach to care.

Ana Marques Clinic needed a new website to:

  • Provide contact information to receive appointment requests and facilitate access to the Clinic for consultations.

  • Showcase a team of experienced professionals with extensive training and expertise.

  • Present the services offered by the Clinic.

  • Enable access to selected, high-quality information related to the Clinic’s areas of expertise.

  • Build trust through sharing testimonials and reviews about the services provided.

The Problem

Being developed in an outdated version of WordPress (several versions behind), its functionality was at risk due to potential security issues, lack of support, and compatibility problems with servers or browsers.

On the other hand, updating WordPress to the latest version could also cause issues, such as performance disruptions, incompatibility with previous plugins and themes, or conflicts with custom code.

The Challenge

The goal was to rebuild the website to bring it up to date in terms of design and functionality, while paving the way for the use of a different content management system, one more focused on usability, that would simplify future content and page updates, and ensure the platform remains consistently up to date..

Given that Squarespace is one of the most popular platforms with these features, it was the chosen solution.

Process and Solution

To bring Ana Marques Clinic’s new website to life, I followed my structured 4-phases design process. Each step was tailored to ensure clarity, collaboration, and meaningful progress at every stage.

Phase A: Working Agreement

Step 1: Align + Step 2: Book

After the first contact, I began with:

  • A detailed review of the existing website

  • An interview with the Clinical Director to clarify goals and expectations

This laid the foundation for a clear agreement and project start.

Phase B: Project Setup

Step 3: Describe

The client completed a guided questionnaire to clarify key aspects of the project, including:

  • The Clinic’s mission, vision, and core values

  • Problems with the current website and goals for the redesign

  • Main user groups and their needs

  • Desired content, features, and style

Step 4: Deliver

The client provided all necessary content and assets, maintaining continuous communication through Whatsapp or email, according to the circumstances.

This setup ensured a consistent start and supported a smooth, organised workflow throughout the project.

Phase C: Website Creation

Step 5: Envision

We started the website creation by defining the visual and structural direction.

  • A moodboard was created to explore visual ideas, and I then prepared a Visual Direction Board, with the color palette and style choices

  • A first version of the sitemap was also sketched to map out the website’s structure and navigation.

This gave us a shared visual language and a clear plan to move forward.

Step 6: Design

We refined the visual layout and user experience.

  • We iterated through several homepage design options.

  • A final homepage and key internal pages were agreed upon.

  • The responsive design was presented, including the mobile layout.

  • Accessibility was considered throughout, following W3C recommendations

This phase ensured the website met expectations and functioned smoothly on all devices.

Step 7: Build

The website was developed based on the approved designs.

  • The full website was built, integrating all content

  • Client feedback was incorporated through some revisions

  • Layout and functionality were tested

The result was a complete and functional website.

Step 8: Launch

With the website complete, we wrapped up with the final steps to go live confidently.

  • SEO was set up and performance checked

  • The domain was connected and the website was launched

  • An Instagram account was integrated for traffic attribution

Ana Marques Clinic’s new website was live, polished, functional, and ready to serve its audience.

Phase D: Ongoing Support

Step 9: Monitor

After launch, website performance was tracked to ensure everything was working as intended.

  • The traffic and engagement was monitored directly through Squarespace

  • The website was also connected to Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for deeper insights.

  • A performance report was sent to the client three months after launch

This ongoing monitoring helped confirm the website was engaging its audience and functioning effectively.

Step 10: Improve

Since launch, the website contents have been updated, keeping content current and relevant.

Results

The new website was launched in July 2024.

  • From the client’s perspective, the most positive aspects were communication and tools.

  • The website users highlighted how attractive and well-designed the site appeared to them, and their feedback has been unanimously positive, according to the company’s testimonials..

The feedback from the company Clinical Director and Founder, Dr. Ana Marques, is also very rewarding.

It was a pleasure having Alexandra create my new website: professional, reliable, and very pleasant. I highly recommend her.
I really liked the work and hope to continue counting on her.
— Dra. Ana Marques, Clinical Director and Founder

Two months after launch, a thorough website analysis was conducted, with metrics clearly showing a positive upward trend in traffic, thanks to strategic SEO and content efforts. During this period, the number of visitors increased, indicating effective outreach. Additionally, the proportion of returning visitors grew, reflecting strong visitor retention and engagement.

Six months after launch, key metrics for active users showed a solid number of visitors throughout the period, with some monthly fluctuations. The majority were new visitors, indicating strong reach and effective acquisition efforts. While attracting new audiences is a positive outcome, there remains an opportunity to further enhance visitor engagement.
